Environment Canada ends tornado warning for Toronto, York Region

Environment Canada has ended a tornado warning issued Saturday afternoon for Toronto and the regions of York and Durham.

The warning came into effect at about 3:30 p.m., just after Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch. The thunderstorm watch is still in effect for the city of Toronto, as well as across the GTA.

Severe weather climatologist Rob Kuhn said it’s believed that the last tornado warning issued for Toronto was in August, 2005.

He said the tornado warning was issued because of a “long-lived storm” that has a 15 per cent chance of producing tornadoes.

Earlier in the day, a heat warning had been issued.
