Woman found dead in Montreal apartment

A 73-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment on Montcalm St. in the Gay Village on Monday.

Police received a call from the woman’s family around 3:30 p.m. They then accompanied her relatives to the apartment.

The SPVM said the family called after they hadn’t heard from the woman for a few weeks. They confirmed that it was a natural death.

Last week, Quebec coroner Raynald Gauthier released a report following the case of a 65-year-old woman who was found dead in her Trois-Rivière home. They had determined that she had died about a month before.

He recommended that municipal housing boards and the Regroupement des offices d’habitation du Québec encourage older individuals who live alone or who have reduced mobility join Quebec’s Pair program, an automated daily phone call service that checks in to make sure everything is OK.
